Grace's birthday is long past (June) but I had intended to blog about it so I will now. We had a big girl day. She and I went to town and went shopping. We took our time looking at things. No other plans and by ourselves, it was not a bad trip. (I am not a shopper!) Barry met us for lunch at Olive Garden. Surprisingly this was her choice, not ours. It worked for me! She had a "wheat weekend" since it was her birthday-she could eat wheat the whole weekend. I think she was more excited about that than her presents. We let her open her present at lunch-an MP3 player. This was a big girl present year. An MP3 player, digital camera, earrings, Hannah Montana CD, clothes and money...
I look at her and it is hard to believe she is 9 years old now. She has taken the most energy of all my children, but life with Grace is never boring. I love that life is an adventure for her. She loves to learn and has fun with life. She reminds me most of myself as a child of all of my girls, only where I internalized everything, she is an open book! Sometimes good, sometimes bad. I think the reason I believe she is most like me is that she feels everything so deeply and sharply. While everything is an adventure, it is often a painful one. It took me years to learn to guard my heart against the constant buffeting of life. I pray that the Lord will find her a more willing and workable subject.
Love,
Shawna
